Swiss watchmaker IWC is company that has been in the watch industry for over a century. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s the Swiss watch industry in particular changed drastically. This happened due to the widespread use of smaller electric batteries. Wristwatches had much larger batteries before 1940.
In 1947, the transistor was created. This also revolutionized the Swiss watchmaking industry. This made watch technology grow gradually to be less mechanical and more electronic and modern by the mid 80’s. IWC Ingenieur Watches were first introduced by IWC in 1955, right before this change.
IWC Ingenieur Watches were based on an electronic movement designed by Albert Pellaton. The watches were designed to be conservative versions of the Mark XI Pilot watch. Because of this, the original design was simple and elegant. This design gave the watch strong anti-magnetic capabilities, this made watch a more accurate time piece.
